Oral rehabilitation treats the mouth as a whole, rather than addressing each dental problem separately. This approach requires careful planning for the correct sequence of complex work to be performed. Before rehabilitation, it is very important to arrive at a good diagnosis and establish the treatment plan.
Consequently, this branch of dentistry is closely associated with other specialties, such as periodontics, dental prosthesis, cosmetic dentistry, orthodontics, surgery, implantology and endodontics (root canal treatment).
Candidate patients for oral rehabilitation are those who have one or more of the following items:
– Multiple missing teeth;
– Periodontal disease;
– Excessive wear on tooth surfaces;
– Teeth excessively misaligned or with great aesthetic compromise.
The rehabilitations are made with biocompatible materials and can be attached to existing teeth, implants and mucous membranes of the oral cavity. The time required for complete or partial oral rehabilitation will vary from patient to patient and depends on the nature of the dental work to be performed.
