Vaccines

Although vaccination against yellow fever is not a requirement for visa analysis, the International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis, which must contain proof of vaccination against yellow fever, may be requested by Immigration Officers in Australia.

Every passenger who is one year of age or older and who has spent a night or more in a country reportedly infected with yellow fever must carry their International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis when entering Australia.

For more information on yellow fever requirements, please visit the Australian Government’s Department of Health website.

Tourism
This visa is suitable for those who wish to make a tourist visit or other recreational activities such as: vacations, sightseeing tours, social reasons, visiting family or friends, not including business or work activities.

The visa when granted will allow a single or multiple entries in Australia for the period of validity of the same.

A stay of up to 12 months or a shorter period may be required. The stay granted will depend on the reasons for the visit and personal circumstances.

The tourist visa can also be used by those who are going to Australia to study for a period of up to 12 weeks. For courses lasting up to 12 weeks, it is NO longer mandatory to submit medical exams. For periods over 12 weeks, a study visa must be required.

Mandatory documentation:
• Passport, signed and valid for the period of stay and previous passports, if you have already traveled abroad;
• Form 48R or 48R POR current, completed and signed by the applicant (the photo posted on the form must be recent and without digital changes – maximum 6 months – and size 5×7 or 3×4);
• Payment of the fee.

In order for a visa to be granted, it is necessary to comply with the financial, health and character requirements determined by the Australian Government’s Immigration Department.

The following documentation may be included with the visa application to prove compliance with these requirements:

Additional documentation:

• Evidence of financial availability or access to sufficient resources to make the trip for the visa applicant or the person financially responsible for the trip (if it is from a third party, it must accompany a declaration, with a notarized signature, confirming the person’s willingness to pay for the trip) .

This financial evidence may include, but is not limited to:
• Letter from the employer stating job title, length of service, salary and vacation period or social contract of the company;
• Last three paychecks;
• Income tax return;
• Bank statements of current account or investments of the last three months;
• Receipts for purchases of foreign currency;
• Credit card statements for the past three months.
The Immigration Department may ask the applicant for additional documents that were not listed here and even the originals.

Visa applications submitted in full will likely be completed in a shorter time. Incomplete applications may be delayed or, in some cases, denied. The Immigration Department has no duty to request more documents if the visa application is incomplete.

No authenticated documents will be returned. If the original documents were requested by the visa section, they will be returned.

General Tips
Still on the plane just before you arrive, you will be given a paper for Customs and Immigration that must be completed and signed by each adult (bring a pen in the bag), and if you are traveling with dependents the responsible will sign. In that paper they ask if you bring food, if you have been on farms lately, if you are bringing products or amounts over 10 thousand dollars (if you declare, it is not taxed, it is only control), where you intend to stay (if you have a reservation for accommodation or homestay address etc. bring in the bag), country of origin, flight number, passport number, how long you intend to stay, and other questions (in English). Just fill in the truth, that there are no major problems. If you don’t know how to answer a question, leave it blank. This paper will be presented at Immigration where it will be endorsed by the official, and then it must be presented at customs, where it will be collected by another official.

Many types of food are prohibited from entering Australia, even those offered on the plane. Normally industrialized foods can, but it also includes several types that cannot. Some examples of those that cannot be: Cheeses, hams, meats, fish and meat products, fruits, seeds, honey, certain products with natural fibers and leather and wood, any product that contains soil, live plants, etc. Examples: canned guava came in, but banana candy in a cellophane package did not. Whatever you are bringing and you have doubts, the best option is to mark on your card (the one that fills in the plane) that you are bringing food, and go straight to the red sector (declare) instead of the green sector (nothing to declare). There, the officer will ask you to show the products and will release or not. Whatever you do not release, he will throw it in the quarantine trash, but in compensation you will not have to pay a fine if you had been caught in the blue saying that you had no products to be declared. Fines can reach $ 200,000, and there is no forgiveness.

Attention when changing airports, for those arriving in Sydney at the International Airport and going to another Australian city: you will probably have to move to the airport from the Domestic Terminal. In Sydney the saying is a few kilometers from the International (too far to go on foot). There is right in front of the main exit of Internacional, a bus that just for this and makes this trip every 15 or 20 minutes. I don’t remember the price, but it costs between A $ 3 and 5, so you better change some money in A $ when you arrive. Also note that long flights tend to be delayed, and the time spent at Sydney customs, changing money, and changing airports can take up to 2 hours or more. If you happen to have an air connection to another city, make sure you have at least 3 hours between one flight and another, otherwise you may miss it (as has happened with many people).
